Community Legal Service
As well as administering the Legal Aid System, the Legal Services Commission is responsible for the Community Legal Service.
The CLS is developing networks of people giving legal help and advice such as on housing, benefits and debts some of which may be provided without charge. Where there is a charge, assistance may be available through the CLS Fund.


Consumer Credit Couselling Service
Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) is a registered charity whose purpose is to assist families and individuals who are in financial difficulty by providing independent and confidential counselling on personal budgeting, advice on the wise use of credit and, where appropriate, achievable plans to repay outstanding debts. Its services are free and confidential.

The UK Insolvency Helpline was established with the remit to look at meeting a long-standing need for debt and credit advice.
Importantly, it is the UK's only personal and business debt consultancy offering free advice to consumers on financial problems.
The dedicated aim of the service is to provide clients with a caring, professional hands on approach to financial problems with the ability to identify and resolve problems at an early stage. As well as providing assistance to individuals, help is also available for c ompanies, sole traders, students and specifically help related to mortgages.

National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux
Provides free, independent and impartial advice on matters including social security, employment, discrimination, consumer and debt matters, housing, legal etc. The website includes news headlines, news library, how to get advice with an online directory to find your nearest bureau and local website, together with online advice and information.

Office of Fair Trading
General advice on your consumer rights in the United Kingdom. The site gives information on your rights under the law, and tips on how to complain or how to find someone who can help with your problem. There is also a series of downloadable consumer leaflets. A useful leaflet is published by the Officer of the Data Protection Commisioner (Your Rights) on how to consult your credit record and correct any mistakes.

Trading Standards Central
A one stop shop for consumer protection information in the UK. Subjects covered include mortgages, debts, problems with goods and services, vehicles, holidays etc. There are advice leaflets you can read on-line, print or save to read later. As well as those from Trading Standards there are lists of leaflets available from other organisations.
